CNC Machinist jobs near you
CNC machinists turn a print and a block of metal into a part that measures exactly what the drawing says. It is precise, hands-on work with real accountability: the part either holds tolerance or it does not.
Typical pay: $22–$38 an hour in most of New England, more with Swiss or 5-axis experience.

What the day actually looks like
- Read the print, pick the tooling, set the workholding.
- Load or edit the program, prove out the first article, adjust offsets.
- Inspect with micrometers, calipers, gauges — sometimes a CMM.
- Keep the machine running and document what you changed.
How people get in
- Operator roles often hire with no experience and train on one machine.
- A manufacturing certificate or apprenticeship shortens the jump to setup work.
- Blueprint reading, GD&T and measurement tools are the three skills that move pay fastest.
Before you apply to twenty of these
Most people leave a job over shift, environment or the parts of the work that quietly drain them — not over pay. Ten free minutes names those up front, then ranks these openings against you and shows the gap you'd need to close.

Common questions
- How do I know if this job fits me?
- Take the free assessment at https://jobforme.app/assessment. It measures nine dimensions — dependability, procedure discipline, learning speed, coachability, work pace and variety, people contact, autonomy and direction, precision demand, pressure and stakes — then scores this role against them, including shift and commute.
- Where do the dimension readings on this job come from?
- They are estimated from the wording of this posting: what the work asks for, in the employer's own words. They describe the role, not any person, and they are not the employer's own scores.
- Is this job posted by the employer or found on a job board?
- The chip on the posting says which. A “Job For Me posting” means the employer hires through Job For Me, so your fit score reaches the person doing the hiring. “Listed nearby” means we found and summarised a public board listing, and you apply on the original posting.
- Does Job For Me cost job seekers anything?
- No. Seekers never pay and the assessment stays free. Job For Me is decision-support software, not an employment agency, and it does not promise anyone a job. https://jobforme.app/assessment
